On Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at 10 a.m., all road closures in Sequoia National Park due to the Coffeepot Fire will be lifted, allowing public access. Mineral King Road and its recreation areas, as well as the section of South Fork Road within Sequoia National Park, will reopen. Most trails accessed from these roads will also be available, except for the Lady Bug Trail, which will remain closed. Atwell Mill Campground will also reopen. Click for more information from Sequioa and Kings Canyon National Parks.

Road paving is expected to take place on the Mineral King Road from 6/25 through 6/28. Paving will require temporary closures Tuesday, 6/25 through Friday 6/28. Road paving is also scheduled on site 20 on the Generals Highway on Monday, 6/24. Click the link above for a more detailed schedule. Also, please help us urge visitors to stay out and away from the river if they plan to come up to the parks. As you know, this week we had another tragic river incident.

Memorial Day weekend is considered the summer “kick-off” for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and the parks are expected to be exceptionally busy. Trip-planning is essential for a safe and enjoyable visit. Click the link above for information on planning holiday weekend trips! Of note, the Mineral King Road is opening to the public on Friday May 24th. Cedar Grove and Crystal Cave remain closed.

On April 1st, County Supervisor Eddie Valero attended the public meeting held by Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. In response to an audience question about the Mineral King Road, he read an update provided by the county’s Resource Management Agency. Tentatively beginning April 15 through about May 10 significant weekday, daytime closures will go into effect between Hospital Rock and the Giant Forest Museum. Similar road construction will be taking place along the Mineral King Road. Current estimate is for work to begin in late April and take about 8 weeks to complete. Road closures with scheduled pass throughs for residents will be in effect until the Memorial Day weekend, when access typically reopens for the season to public vehicles. After the Memorial Day weekend, delays should only be about 30 minutes through project completion. Click on the title above for details.

SEKI is planning to close the Generals Hwy at Hospital Rock Friday evening, 3/1. If the forecast is accurate, it is likely to remain closed through the weekend, especially given how low the snowline may be. Meanwhile, plans are in place to remove hazard trees and repair storm damaged roads, including General Highway and the Mineral King Road. For details, click on the title above!

Our friends at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks have provided another update on the storm recovery efforts. The Mineral King Road will not be open to public access this 2023 season, significant work is taking place on General’s Highway, pavement preservation work continues in Grant Grove, and shuttle service in Giant Forest remains suspended until further notice.

Our friends at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks have provided another update on the storm recovery efforts. Access to Giant Forest from Hwy 198 in Three Rivers is expected to open July 1! They are assessing the Mineral King Road to determine what, if any, public access will be possible this summer and to develop guidelines for resident access.

Temporary access to Oak Grove Bridge should be restored by the end of next week; however, much of the county portion of the road is expected to remain closed to the public for an additional three weeks while minor repairs are completed. It is expected that Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks personnel will have access to the Sequoia National Park portion of the road by the end of next week. The Park portion of the road will remain closed until further notice.
