Public Access to Grant Grove Restored Today!
The estimated opening date of the Foothills area between the Entrance Station and Hospital Rock is Friday 14 April

Good morning,
We have a couple reopening updates to share with you all.
The first is Grant Grove in Kings Canyon National Park. Caltrans opened Hwy 180 this morning, resulting in public access into Grant Grove! I am attaching the map we promised marking routes from Three Rivers to the Kings Canyon Entrance Station. We will post this map at the Market in Three Rivers at the kiosk, and also make it available online. We’ll have an updated version when we reopen into the Foothills on the Sequoia side.
We did hear from Caltrans that Hwy 245 is now expected to open by June 16. We don’t have any details or information on what this means for Hwy 180 into Cedar Grove.
A few notes of what to expect in Grant Grove this weekend, to best prepare your guests and visitors as they get ready to drive up.
- Due to some water line damage encountered late last week, Grant Grove is under a Boil Order Notice for Water
- Signs will be posted in all affected public areas
- Big Stump Entrance Station will be open
- Big Stump Picnic and Snowplay Area will be open
- Visitor Center will be Open 9-4:30
- Market will be Open 9-5
- Grant Tree Road and Trail Open
- Trail is cleared to pavement but can be slippery from snowmelt freezing overnight
- Azalea Campground Open
- Columbine Snowplay Area Open
The second update is the estimated reopening for the Foothills area between the Entrance Station and Hospital Rock. The estimated reopening date is now Friday, April 14. We’ll send out a news release with details next week ahead of the opening.
We are making progress in clearing the Generals Highway across the top. I believe we’ve gotten at least a couple miles up from Red Fir on the Sequoia side with no significant damage reported.
