Coffeepot Fire – Be Prepared

Guidance from the Three Rivers Fire Safe Council

In light of the continuing growth of the Coffeepot Fire, the Three Rivers Fire Safe Council has issued the guidance below. In addition, the Three Rivers Together Team encourages us all to check on our neighbors to see if they need help getting fire-ready.

There will be a Coffeepot Fire Public Meeting tomorrow, August 18, at 6pm in the Three Rivers Memorial Building. (Click on the link to view the event and add it to your calendar.)

At this time Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks personnel are only mentioning a remote possibility of an evacuation. It is better to be prepared and not need the preparations than the alternative. For more information, including checklists, go to https://www.3rfsc.org/listos-california/.

Simple Steps Starting Now

  • Stay informed about wildfire conditions and evacuation orders.Sign up for ALERTTC – www.alerttc.com for phone, email, and text emergency messaging.
  • Make a family plan.
  • Pack a go-bag:

Gloves, mask, change of clothing (Cotton clothing), hat, first aid kit, digital backup of important documents, shoes, a bit cash, radio, flashlight, whistle, water, snacks, phone charger, medications, family/friends contact list. 

  • Prepare cat carriers and pet cages for transport. (Pack up a bit of food for them too.)
  • Make sure your car has at least 1/2 tank of gas.

Home Preparation Tips

  • Make sure your attic and basement vents have 1/8th inch screen on them.
  • Blow off leaves and debris from your roof and around your home.
  • Clean your gutters.
  • Move all patio furniture, potted plants and other possibly flammable materials away from your outside walls, patios etc.  (If plants near your walls are not in pots, trim them and clear all dead foliage, leaves, branches.)

REMEMBER – 100 feet around your home should be cleared of all debris, dead shrubs, trees, and branches, tall grass.
