Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks provide information about the status of popular low-land trails in Sequoia National Park and their plans for repairing and maintaining trails, as well as the roads and parking lots providing access. The update includes information on the North Fork Trails, the South Fork Trails, Shepherd’s Saddle, and Oriole Lake.

The annual Hero Appreciation Months for Three Rivers and and surrounding gateway communities have commenced! January through March will feature public events celebrating firefighter/EMS, law enforcement officials, and our armed forces, as well as discounts at local businesses.
Fire management staff are preparing to burn piles of cut vegetation in multiple locations throughout the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The work will be ongoing as conditions allow from January 22 through March 15, 2024. During the next couple of months visitors to the parks may see smoke, burning piles, firefighters, and firefighting equipment along the roadway. Specific timing for the work will be dependent upon environmental prescription parameters, air quality windows, and staffing levels.

Tulare County Library’s annual Winter Reading Challenge: Stories Under the Stars runs from Tuesday, January 2, 2024, through Wednesday, January 31, 2024. The Challenge is for all ages, languages, and reading levels. Children ages 0-5 years are encouraged to read 10 books this winter by themselves or with a parent. Everyone else, Kids, Teens, and Adults, are encouraged to read 10 days or more.
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are offering recommendations for the holiday season and information about policy changes. Recommendations include using the shuttle December 23–January 9 and making use of the park map and trip planner. Generals Highway between Sequoia and Kings Canyon will close on Monday, January 8 or when impassable due to snow. There will be no lodging available in the Parks January 7 to March 15. This fire was due to a controlled burn escape in a residential area. Firefighters currently have lines around this fire and it is holding at 10 acres. Please use caution as fire equipment remains in the area for the next couple of days.
