Dr. Autumn Davidson has been getting queries about rattlesnake vaccinations, and she has asked Three Rivers Together to send out a reminder that she is no longer providing rattlesnake vaccination clinics. The Bureau of Land Management has purportedly resumed burning piles on Case Mountain. In the near term, they plan to burn about 25 acres of vegetation piles. Smoke may be visible from many locations in Three Rivers. Smoke impacts are expected to be negligible.
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks provide information about the status of popular low-land trails in Sequoia National Park and their plans for repairing and maintaining trails, as well as the roads and parking lots providing access. The update includes information on the North Fork Trails, the South Fork Trails, Shepherd’s Saddle, and Oriole Lake.
This program provides financing to repair income-eligible and owner-occupied homes needing essential health and/or safety repairs. This program is specifically for properties located in the unincorporated areas of Tulare County. Homeowners must have homeowners’ insurance and current property taxes. Provides grant not to exceed $30,000.
The Sequoia Parks Conservancy is looking for applicants who are interested in working with us for the 2024 Season in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. We have positions to be filled in the Foothills Visitor Center, the Warehouse at our main office in Ash Mountain, and the Lodgepole Visitor Center/Giant Forest Museum. The annual Hero Appreciation Months for Three Rivers and and surrounding gateway communities have commenced! January through March will feature public events celebrating firefighter/EMS, law enforcement officials, and our armed forces, as well as discounts at local businesses.
Fire management staff are preparing to burn piles of cut vegetation in multiple locations throughout the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The work will be ongoing as conditions allow from January 22 through March 15, 2024. During the next couple of months visitors to the parks may see smoke, burning piles, firefighters, and firefighting equipment along the roadway. Specific timing for the work will be dependent upon environmental prescription parameters, air quality windows, and staffing levels.
Dr. Wood’s 4 yo Golden Retriever “Ace” is in process of certifying to be a therapy animal. He is calm and social, friendly, fully and currently vaccinated and healthy. Do you know (are you) someone up here in 3R who might appreciate some home visits by Ace and his human?
Tulare County Library’s annual Winter Reading Challenge: Stories Under the Stars runs from Tuesday, January 2, 2024, through Wednesday, January 31, 2024. The Challenge is for all ages, languages, and reading levels. Children ages 0-5 years are encouraged to read 10 books this winter by themselves or with a parent. Everyone else, Kids, Teens, and Adults, are encouraged to read 10 days or more.
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are offering recommendations for the holiday season and information about policy changes. Recommendations include using the shuttle December 23–January 9 and making use of the park map and trip planner. Generals Highway between Sequoia and Kings Canyon will close on Monday, January 8 or when impassable due to snow. There will be no lodging available in the Parks January 7 to March 15. This fire was due to a controlled burn escape in a residential area. Firefighters currently have lines around this fire and it is holding at 10 acres. Please use caution as fire equipment remains in the area for the next couple of days.
Forward progress of the 8–10 acre Salt Fire burning west of the South Fork Campground has been stopped and there is hose around the fire.
