three Rivers Union School District Seeking Board Member
Three Rivers Community:
The Three Rivers Union School District needs another school board member!
Two of the five current board members are at the end of their terms, and only one member of the public has registered as a candidate to fill those two vacancies. As a result that person is elected to the board unopposed. The board must now appoint another new member before November 5, 2024.
The only legal requirements for serving on the school board is that you be a resident in the Three Rivers Union School District, and be registered to vote.
In general terms, the Board’s role is to provide strategic guidance and support for the District, to make high-level financial decisions, and to ensure accountability. The Superintendent/Principal is responsible for the day to day operations of the District, but they are hired and evaluated by the Board. More detailed information about a school board’s roles are in the California School Board Association Governance Resources.
Some specifics about how the TRUS board operates are found in the TRUS Board Handbook: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rpcLl2yqvu2ni-6KjZBTpEUQuh7GxeAv/view?usp=sharing. The Board meets regularly once a month, and more often if needed.
The process for selecting our new board member will be:
- September – Solicit applications. Deadline for submitting the “Candidate Information Sheet” is September 30, 2024 at 4:00 pm in the District Office.
- October – During the October 9, 2024 Board meeting at 5:15 pm, interview applicants and appoint a new member by majority vote of the current board.
- December – Swear in the new members at the annual Organizational Meeting of the Board. Date TBD.
To apply, please complete the “Candidate Information Sheet” and return to the Three Rivers School District Office by September 30, 2024, 4:00 pm.
Thank you for your support, and for your interest in helping TRUS be the best it can be!
