This fire was due to a controlled burn escape in a residential area. Firefighters currently have lines around this fire and it is holding at 10 acres.
Please use caution as fire equipment remains in the area for the next couple of days.
We would like to remind everyone that it is essential to check the burn status in your county and call your local air quality management agency before doing any burning. Know these requirements if you are going to do a residential bum:
- You should have a maximum pile size of four feet in diameter (Larger Piles will require a General or Broadcast Burn Permit)
- Clear all flammable material and vegetation within 10 feet of the outer edge of the pile and down tot he bare earth.
- Keep a water supply close to the burning site.
- An adult should be in attendance with a shovel until the fire is out.
- No burning shall be undertaken unless weather conditions (particularly wind) are such that burning can be considered safe.
- No household trash or garbage can be burned outdoors at residences. In order to reduce the amount of smoke when burning, you should burn between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. when smoke dispersion conditions are best.
