Sycamore Fire in Foothills of Sequoia National Park

SEQUOIA AND KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARKS, Calif., 17 October 2023 – The Sycamore Fire showed no growth overnight. With more precise measurements of the fire, the acreage is now listed at 24 acres. The fire is currently staffed by 1 hand crew, 2 engines, and 1 helicopter. No further growth is anticipated. The fire will remain staffed through the upcoming predicted hot weather. 

The Sycamore Fire was discovered in Sequoia National Park, near the Ash Mountain Helibase and the Ash Mountain Entrance Station, on the afternoon of October 16. The fire spread uphill through grass and brushy fuels. Tulare County Fire and CALFIRE aided NPS resources in initial attack. Forward progress on the fire was stopped at approximately 25 acres. The fire currently poses no threats to NPS infrastructure or housing or to the adjacent community of Three Rivers.
