Fire management staff are preparing to burn piles of cut vegetation in multiple locations throughout the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The work will be ongoing as conditions allow from January 22 through March 15, 2024. During the next couple of months visitors to the parks may see smoke, burning piles, firefighters, and firefighting equipment along the roadway. Specific timing for the work will be dependent upon environmental prescription parameters, air quality windows, and staffing levels.

This fire was due to a controlled burn escape in a residential area. Firefighters currently have lines around this fire and it is holding at 10 acres. Please use caution as fire equipment remains in the area for the next couple of days.
Forward progress of the 8–10 acre Salt Fire burning west of the South Fork Campground has been stopped and there is hose around the fire.
A wild fire about 8–10 acres in size is burning west of the South Fork Campground. Tankers are dropping retardant to contain it.
The Bakersfield Field Office plans to conduct prescribed fire operations of up to 1,000 piles of downed hazard trees, branches, and understory brush at Case Mountain Extensive Recreation Management Area, southeast of Three Rivers, Tulare County, to prevent wildfire risk. Burn operations may continue periodically until spring.
The Bureau of Land Management that BLM will begin burning piles on Case Mountain today. As conditions allow, they will continue for about a week. Smoke will be visible. Impacts should be negligible, though smoke may settle overnight.
The Sycamore Fire showed no growth overnight. With more precise measurements of the fire, the acreage is now listed at 24 acres. The fire is currently staffed by 1 hand crew, 2 engines, and 1 helicopter. No further growth is anticipated. The fire will remain staffed through the upcoming predicted hot weather.
Good afternoon everyone, update on the Sycamore Fire. The fire is currently approximately 25 acres, and forward progress has been stopped. The east and west flanks of the fire have been secured with hose lays and fire retardant, and there is currently no threat to park facilities and housing or to the community of Three Rivers. The Generals Highway has been fully reopened in both directions.
There is a 5-acre fire west of the Ash Mountain Helibase near the entrance to Sequoia National Park. Tulare County, CALFIRE, and NPS fire resources are responding. There are currently no evacuations. The Ash Mountain Entrance Station in Three Rivers is closed to inbound traffic. The Generals Highway is open to outbound (downhill traffic) of people leaving the park. Numerous aircraft are expected to arrive on scene very soon. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. We will issue updates as information becomes available.

The Grant Grove Prescribed burn, which had been scheduled to commence on Sunday, October 15, has been postponed due to dry fuel conditions.
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks plan to begin ignitions on the Grant Grove Prescribed Burn, in the Grant Grove area of Kings Canyon National Park on Sunday, October 15. 520 acres of burning are planned over the course of 4-6 days of ignitions. The General Grant Tree, the Grant Tree Trail, and the Grant Tree Road, as well as trail systems in the surrounding area, will be inaccessible during the ignitions, and the Azalea Campground will be closed.
