Presentation: #MineToo – A Tale of Two Mineral King Mining Women in the 1800s

July 25 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

FREE!

On Friday, July 25, Three Rivers Branch Library is hosting Laile Di Silvestro for a talk about our local mining women! The presentation will start promptly at 6:00pm… please arrive early to grab your seat.

A little about the presentation:

Mark Twain wrote that the murderer Tim Carrington was frightened when he saw a woman in the garb of a miner. Perhaps Tim had reason for some competitive trepidation. After all, his wife Elizabeth had started the gold rush that Twain was to immortalize in his writings. Later, the Carringtons came to Mineral King where a woman named Harriet Hill had done something astounding. She had become a mine claim owner at a time when female involvement in mining was nigh unheard of. Her action inspired dozens of women, including Elizabeth. Join us at the library on this 150th anniversary of women mining in Mineral King to celebrate the spirited and adventurous lives of Elizabeth and Harriet.
