History Open House: From Rocks to Riches
June 15, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Join the Mineral King Preservation Society for an open house at the Three Rivers Historical Museum as we prepare to unveil a new exhibit featuring a mining artifact that tells the story of an exciting period in our local and regional history!
On Thursday, June 15th, we’ll have experts, and goodies, and interactive activities on hand from 10:00am to 2:00pm. In addition to an 11:00am presentation introducing the artifact and preservation process, a historical archaeologist and friends will be hosting family-friendly activities that tell the story of Mineral King’s ores and the stinky, poisonous, sweltering, and dangerous process employed to convert the ore into the stuff of dreams.
This project is the result of a collaboration between the Mineral King Preservation Society, Sequoia National Park, and the National Park Service Western Archaeological & Conservation Center, with funding from the Society for Industrial Archaeology and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
